The Health Information Management program is designed to introduce students to the diversity of healthcare. Students in this program will learn about privacy, confidentiality, electronic medical records, quality management, human resources, and coding and billing. Students will work in a variety of healthcare settings such as hospitals, ambulatory care settings, insurance offices, attorney offices and be able to perform coding, billing and medical record maintenance.
Students will receive training using advanced Virtual Lab technology and will be required to take specialized courses like ICD-10-CM coding and hospital coding.
The program is consistent with Southwest Florida College's mission, as it will prepare graduates for employment in entry-level positions within the Health Information Management field.
Southwest Florida College is listening to employers! We have an advisory board for each one of our programs that is comprised of representatives from local leading businesses. We meet with our advisory boards on a regular basis to find out what employers expect from our graduates. Below is a list of organizations that make up the Allied Health program's advisory board.
