Medical Assistant Degree

Southwest Florida College is a proud member of the American Association of Medical Assistants. The Medical Assistant associate's degree program is accredited with the:

Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)

This competency-based program focuses on fundamental medical courses such as anatomy and physiology. The program also includes clinical procedures and pharmacology, exposing students to both the administrative and clinical aspects of the modern healthcare environment.

With an emphasis on medical theory and terminology, the program focuses on the practices and procedures associated with the operation of a healthcare facility. Included in the associate's degree program is a mandatory externship providing students the opportunity to apply learned skills and competencies.

Programmatic accreditation with ABHES allows associate's degree students to sit for their certification exam immediately upon graduation. With a course in radiography included in the program of study, students may sit for the state licensing exam and earn a basic x-ray machine operator credential. Once a graduate successfully completes this two-year associate's degree program, he or she will be ready for entry-level employment as a medical assistant with private physicians, health clinics, hospitals and nursing homes.
