The bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration will provide students with a foundation of general management skills in health care and health care services such as: finances, public policy, communication, cultural diversity, and organizational behavior.
This interdisciplinary degree will enable the student to seek employment in an entry-level position in health care administration or a management training position.

The Health Information Technology Associate degree program prepares graduates to work with applications systems and manage electronic health information databases. Health information management personnel maintain and analyze medical information about patients so it can be used in evaluation and treatment. They organize the data and prepare statistical reports used in studying and planning health care.
Health Information Technology professionals may be involved in ensuring that the design and use of information systems support patient safety. They work with nurses, physicians and other healthcare providers in a variety of settings such as hospitals, physician practices, long-term-care facilities, home healthcare agencies, insurance and managed care organizations, government agencies and vendor firms.

Southwest Florida College features a Diploma in Medical Billing and Coding Technology that can be completed in as little as 12 months of study.
This degree will focus on fundamental medical courses, such as anatomy and medical terminology, as well as specialized courses like ICD-9-CM coding and hospital coding.
Southwest Florida College's Medical Billing and Coding program is designed to provide you with the training necessary to prepare you for a position as a medical records coder or employment in medical insurance billing departments within hospitals, medical facilities, private insurance billing firms and other medical support service organizations.
Medical Billing & Coding Technology students are taught by certified coders, many of whom are currently working in the field. Students learn to code using traditional coding manuals as well as computer based programs and the program offers opportunity for co-op placement. Southwest Florida College features a Diploma in Medical Billing and Coding Technology that can be completed in as little as 12 months of study.

The Surgical Technician program is designed to provide students with an academic and clinical background in the field of surgical technology.
The program prepares students for entry-level positions in a number of healthcare facilities including hospitals, medical centers, and public and private surgical centers.
This program contains a 6 -credit non-paid surgical technician externship that must be completed prior to graduation.

This degree will focus on fundamental medical courses, such as anatomy and physiology, radiography, and phlebotomy, as well as clinical coursework like clinical procedures and pharmacology.

Southwest Florida College's Medical Assistant program is designed to expose you to both the administrative and clinical aspects of the modern healthcare environment. We place emphasis on medical theory and terminology as well as teach you the practices and procedures associated with the operation of a healthcare facility.
You will also learn in our clinical laboratory classes, where you can apply the knowledge you previously studied and further your training in real-world scenarios. When you successfully complete the program, you can pursue entry-level employment as a medical assistant with private physicians, health clinics, hospitals and nursing homes.

SWFC has a wide variety of specialty affiliations where you could complete your Medical Assistant externship - including general practice, pediatric, cardiac, neurology as well as full service clinics and family health centers. Many of SWFC students are hired during their externship.
Medical Assistants are supervised in person with weekly visits from the SWFC externship coordinator, unlike other programs where a student's progress is graded through a phone call.
