The Health Information Technology Associate degree program prepares graduates to work with applications systems and manage electronic health information databases. Health information management personnel maintain and analyze medical information about patients so it can be used in evaluation and treatment. They organize the data and prepare statistical reports used in studying and planning health care.
Health Information Technology professionals may be involved in ensuring that the design and use of information systems support patient safety. They work with nurses, physicians and other healthcare providers in a variety of settings such as hospitals, physician practices, long-term-care facilities, home healthcare agencies, insurance and managed care organizations, government agencies and vendor firms.
